Yosemite National Park
Yosemite National Park has so much to offer to everyone. We all hear about the beauty of the valley including ascending structures called El Capitan and Half Dome. These are accessible to anyone with a car. However, The valley only makes up a small part of Yosemite National Park thanks to John Muir (founder of the Sierra Club. Yosemite also offers a vast back country to go hiking and backpacking in.
Recently, we did an amazing 42 mile loop over five days and 4 nights into and slightly beyond "Little Yosemite Valley."
Click on the following topo map to get a printable version with our specific trail highlighted.
I highly recommend buying a topo map of Yosemite if you plan to do any real backcountry camping. We went in late May. At that time, the ground about 8500 ft. was covered in snow, and we totally lost the trail. We relied on a top map, our key chain compass from REI , and the sun to find our way forward.
Some of the highlights of the trip included summittiing Half Dome, seeing a bear, and drinking coffee in the morning in front of our tent on a a ledge overlooking a valley.
